Travel advisories part of corporate travel management

by nick Sunday, November 30, 2008
Corporate travel management companies keep their corporate travel clients abreast of major security alerts and advisories as they are issued by the Federal Government, providing advice and assistance to corporate travel clients intending to visit countries for business or leisure where alerts have been issued.

Alerts can be issued for a number of reasons, including security and health. The most recent advisories related to security involve the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Spain, Thailand and Somalia. Health advisories have been issued for countries such as Vanuatu, where a series of dengue fever outbreaks have been recently recorded.

Part of business travel management is keeping corporate travel clients updated on major new alerts.

The five levels of travel advisories are:
‘be alert to your own security’;
‘exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety’;
‘exercise a high degree of caution’;
‘reconsider your need to travel’ and
‘advised not to travel’.

New Mazda vs Used Mazda

by nick Wednesday, November 26, 2008
The age-old debate of whether it is best to buy a new car versus a pre-loved vehicle will never be settled, as it always comes down to personal choice based on customers’ individual budgets and perspectives.

Sydney Mazda dealer sells a fantastic high-quality range of new Mazdas and used Mazdas and its large staff is happy to assist customers with questions regarding which option is best for them.

Benefits of buying a New Mazda

It is being able to take advantage of Mazda’s ongoing array of new technologies and features included in new Mazda models. With green factors and petrol prices increasingly important in Mazda customers’ minds, Mazda is proudly at the forefront of environmentally-friendly manufacturing and advances in fuel economy.

Some new car buyers also enjoy the reassurance of buying a new Mazda with no history, and they enjoy a choice in colours and Mazda accessories, with an extensive range of paint protectors and the like.

Benefits of buying Used Mazda
Of course, it is the cost saving. Used Mazda buyers can enjoy the zoom-zoom’s lifestyle for a lower price, safe in the knowledge that Mazda’s are of such high quality that they can easily survive several owners in their lifetime and will always perform well.

Tips and Traps of Personal Insurance, General Insurance and Income Protection

by nick Wednesday, November 26, 2008
When it comes to advice on Personal insuranceBusiness Insurances and Superannuation, James Harman & Associates are the insurance specialists that more individual and business owners are turning to.

They want to give you some tips and traps you need to be aware regarding legal advice.

  1. Changing jobs, moving home, re-financing or birth of a child are some common Trigger events that should prompt you to review your insurance cover

  2. Make sure that the ownership of the policies will give you the best solution for Premium tax deductibility and help minimise tax on benefits. The major Beneficiaries of these strategies are self employed, company directors, DIY super Fund members and breadwinners who make contributions on behalf of low income spouse.

  3. Income protection policies that have an agreed value, guarantee the monthly benefit you apply for as long as you have disclosed your correct earnings and it doesn't exceed 75% of your taxable income. (some fringe benefits can also be included)

  4. There are also income protection indemnity policies which are cheaper to purchase but they only cover you for 75% of your taxable income at time of claim. If you are self employed or a company director and your income is reduced in the year you have a claim, your insurance payout could be less than you expect.

  5. When you are applying for insurance cover, make sure you complete the health declaration and income details In the proposal. This will help reduce the chances of non-disclosure because of a misunderstanding when completing the proposal between you and the adviser.

  6. Don't confuse taxable earnings and gross turnover if your self employed. For income protection you can only Insure your gross personal exertion income after the deduction of business expenses. If you have fixed expenses such as leases, rates, loan interest etc you should consider a business expense policy.

  7. You need to be aware there are two types of insurance premium structures. The most common is Stepped premiums which increases in cost each year with age. Stepped premiums might start off as relatively inexpensive but later in life at the time you most need insurance you might not be able to afford the premiums. At the right age you should give serious consideration to level premiums as they can be more cost effective over time and allow you to budget for a consistent premium.

  8. Having your insurance policies with one company can save on policy fees and could entitle you to a multi policy discount that can be as high as 15%

  9. Assignment of a personally owned insurance policy into a DIY super fund is not allowed, This 'in specie' transfer could render your fund 'non complying'

  10. If you are considering insurance as part of a business succession plan, you will need the services of an accountant to determine a business valuation, a lawyer to complete the necessary agreements and a competent insurance adviser to provide the funding mechanism.

Features, benefits and price of insurance have gone through considerable change in recent years .There Are also tax and legislative changes that make a regular insurance review even more important Contact us to see how you could benefit from an obligation free review.

Event Risk Assessment & Checklists

by nick Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Risk assessment plays an important role in each phase of a major event's planning cycle. Event's should be screened for major risks when a booking enquiry is first received to determine whether, based upon information provided by the promoter, the event presents an unacceptable risk to the venue.

The event should be safe, profitable &/or consistent with the objectives of the venue. If acceptable the proposed event's operating plans should be assessed based upon its real or perceived level or risk (in terms of dollars, safety and the venue's reputation), and the history of the event at other venues.

  Event Risk Assessment & Checklists

Download pdf version of Event risk assessment & checklists

Operating plans for review by the venue as supplied by the promoter might include:

  • Site plans
  • Event operational plans
  • Waste management plans
  • Traffic and transport plans
  • Event risk management plans
  • Security risk management plans
  • Safety management plans
  • Job safety analysis
  • Safe work method statements

A review and final approval of such plans should be based upon the venue's own assessment of risk for the event. The venue should develop range of checklists to help standardise the risk review process.

Risk-based checklists should be used at each phase of the planning cycle:

  • Bookings - for initial event feasibility and screening
  • Planning - for checking the operating plans that they cover obvious risks in an appropriate level of detail
  • Construction/bump in - to audit the promoters contractors for safe work systems, appropriate qualifications and insurance certificates Event - For conducting pre-event readiness checks to ensure all is plans have been implemented appropriately and the gates can now be opened
  • Post event/bump out - for dilapidation reports and event debriefs

Development and use of well-targeted risk-based checklists can help event organisers and venue managers manage the uncertainties associated with events hosted at their venue. By minimising uncertainty they maximise the chance of a great event!

5 Tips to Save on Global Sim Card for Global Roaming

by nick Sunday, November 23, 2008

Looking to save money on international roaming bills? Look no further than BackChat Mobile. Here are five top tips on how to save money on cell phone roaming when travelling.

1. Buy a local sim card before you leave home

BackChat Mobile gives you one number and one sim and saves you up to 70% on your global roaming bill in over 130 countries. There are no charges for receiving calls in over 50 countries.

2. Only receive calls when mobile roaming

An alternative way to save is to minimise outgoing calls and just receive them on your normal Australian global roaming sim. Ensure you switch off your voicemail as the call will bounce backwards and forwards to Australia and cost you an international roaming call to retrieve messages. With BackChat Mobile you have free incoming calls in over 50 countries.

3. Use SMS

SMS is an excellent way to communicate cheaply when international roaming. Ensure you don’t have any missed incoming calls which bounce back to your Australian voicemail.

4. Do take your phone

Of course if you don’t take your phone you will completely eliminate international roaming charges; but then your family, friends and clients can’t contact you and hotel phones can be horrendously expensive.

5. Buy a global sim card in Australia not overseas

Buying a prepaid sim card overseas is unlikely to be the ideal solution. The difference is that BackChat Mobile focuses on low cost calls back to Australia (rather than just local calls), you have one number wherever you travel and you can top up easily.

Reducing costs of corporate travel

by nick Thursday, November 20, 2008

Corporate travel clients across Australia are increasing concerned with reducing corporate travel costs in light of the global financial crisis and anticipated slow down in the Australian economy, according to corporate travel management company, BCD Travel.

In its 2008 Travel Program Survey, 97 per cent of respondents cited reducing corporate travel costs as a major priority for the coming 12 months. In line with this, BCD Corporate Travel, which has offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, has noted a significant decline in bookings for overseas corporate travel over the past few months, as local companies become more frugal and the Australian dollar continues its decline against the greenback.

Corporate travel management clients are also tightening their policies on the frequency and type of corporate travel allowed in their organizations, with options such as business class now strictly reserved for longer haul corporate travel flights.

BCD Travel offers significant flexibility and customization with its online corporate travel management programs, allowing clients to change their corporate travel rules with the click of a button. Comprehensive reporting functions also enable managers to quickly identify their organisation’s corporate travel habits and take measures to change them through compliance and communication.

Google brings Voice-Enabled Search to iPhone

by nick Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Google is set to make a new application available to the iPhone that will allow users to conduct searches by speaking their queries into the handset rather than typing them in. Questions asked are converted into digital files and sent to Google's servers for processing. Once processed, the text is sent to Google's regular search servers and the search results are then returned to the iPhone.

It will also use GPS information to return results that are relevant to the user's location. Google competitors Microsoft and Yahoo already offer similar services via their TellMe and oneSearch applications. The application will be available through the iPhone Apps Store.

Voice-enabled search has been long anticipated, and who better to deliver than Google? The iPhone is the proud recipient of a new Google voice search app, available at the iTunes store, through the updated Google Mobile app. And early tests are extremely positive.

What is Cloud Computing?

by nick Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Forget monster hard drives, backing up your PC and shrink-wrapped software - the future of computing is up in the "cloud". Cloud computing allows users to access programs and vast network of computing resources across the Internet as if they were on their own machines.

Cloud computing can give on-demand access to supercomputer-level power, even from a thin client or mobile device such as a smart phone or laptop.

Microsoft brought the cloud computing concept - whereby all of our data and applications are stored on the internet as opposed to on the PC - a step closer to reality with the unveiling of its Live Mesh platform.

Live Mesh is essentially a web-based operating system, letting users connect all of their devices (home PC, laptop, work computer and, in the not too distant future, handhelds and games consoles) into their own personal mesh. Files and applications can be placed into a "Mesh folder", which lives on the internet and can be accessed by all devices.

The Mesh is updated with any changes made to the files or folders the next time the user is connected to the web. It will also, for instance, allow people to remotely control their home PC from their work PC if both are part of the Mesh. Users can give trusted friends access to their Mesh files and folders for sharing and collaboration.

Google has long been a major proponent of cloud computing, with all of its services - word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, calendar, email, health care records, search, maps and video - living on the web.

Why it works

Critical to the success of cloud computing has been the growth of virtualisation, allowing one computer to act as if it were another - or many others. Server virtualisation lets clouds support more applications than traditional computing grids, hosting various kinds of middleware on virtual machines throughout the cloud.

You Have to Work Hard to Make Money

by nick Sunday, November 16, 2008

This belief is anchored in the simplistic linear view that the harder you work the more money you make. Well, that’s just plain not true!

You are remunerated in direct correlation with how much value and service you provide, not how many hours you work. Successful people know that working ‘smarter’ not harder is the way to go and is totally achievable. We were not meant to toil, struggle or suffer.

Here’s a Tip - whether you’re starting your business, building it further, or taking it to its next growth level, always be looking for the best ways to automate the activitiesin your business.
Create ‘set it and forget it’ automated systems that systematize your client acquisition, contact and selling process. Technological developments such as auto-responders and a range of software applications have done wonders for automating routine time-consuming tasks. Leverage your time. Shift away from trading time for money. Focus on doing what you do best.

The truly wealthy put their money and the efforts of other people to work for them, and outsource tasks that are not natural talents for them. Like a virtual army always marching forward, advancing your interests. A successful life is a balanced life with time for work and play. Otherwise, what is the point of working hard if you don’t enjoy yourself and get the benefits that flow from your work?

Building Great Business Relationships

by nick Sunday, November 16, 2008

If you’re in a business relationship with anyone – a client, vendor, or customer – how important is that relationship to you? Do you value the relationship? Do you want to nurture it?

A business relationship, like any relationship, is a two-way street. The expectations of both parties needs be clear and easily understandable. Applying the Golden Rule is also a good idea: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” That is a very powerful statement, and one I try to practice in my daily life, both in business and personal matters.

Good communication is key for any business relationship to grow and thrive. Even when conflicts surface (and they will), keeping the lines of communication open at all times is extremely important. Meet conflicts head-on, no matter how frightening they may seem at the time. The sooner the issues are out on the table and dealt with, the sooner you can get back on track and back to business-as-usual.

Another thing to keep in mind is letting people know you appreciate them. Thank you notes, cards and e-mails are always a good idea, and they never go out of style. People love to be appreciated. If you are receiving great business from someone, always be sure to let them know. You will feel better for it, and so will they.

Another great idea is to reach out and “touch” your clients and customers on a regular basis by sending them monthly newsletters. This is a wonderful way to keep in touch, both to let them know you are thinking about them, and to remind them about you as well.

Remember, you get out of a great relationship what you put into it. Value those you do business with. Nurture the relationships, so they are always growing and prospering. Keep this up and you will always have a garden full of healthy, happy business contacts.

What are the benefits of blogging for small business?

by nick Sunday, November 16, 2008
Blogging has become quite popular for small businesses as of late. I have noticed on PR Leads that there are several story requests for experts to talk about the benefits of blogging for small businesses. So, I decided I better do my homework and see what this is all about. It turns out that there are several benefits to blogging for small businesses. Here are the most important ones:

1. Blogging Software is Super Easy to Use:

Simply write your thoughts, link to resources, and publish to your blog, all at the push of a few buttons. You can use the software: blogger.com, wordpress.com, typepad.com. It took me 2 minutes to set up my account and 3 minutes to publish my first blog.

2. Build Relationships Online:

Business blogs provide your small business with a chance to share your expertise and knowledge with a larger audience. You have the opportunity to share a piece of yourself with your community allowing them to get to know you better.

3. Higher Search Engine Rankings:

Search engine marketing is hot. Business bloggers are achieving top search engine rankings because search engines rank based on link popularity and easy to index regular content among other factors. Learning the basic skills of search engine optimization and good content management are keys to better rankings for bloggers.

4. Easy Communication:

The biggest benefit of Blogging or RSS (see definition below) for your web audience can prove to be a better solution for notification than websites themselves or email. As indicated by Bill Gates in a speech at the Microsoft CEO Summit 2004 in Redmond, Washington: “if you just put information on a Web site, then people don’t know to come visit that Web site, and it’s very painful to keep visiting somebody’s Web site and it never changes.

It’s very typical that a lot of the Web sites you go to that are personal in nature just eventually go completely stale and you waste time looking at it… And so, getting away from the drawbacks of e-mail — that it’s too imposing — and yet the drawbacks of the Web site — that you don’t know if there’s something new and interesting there – this [blogs & RSS] is about solving that.”
